Foxes Part II

We finally had a sunny day in Jackson after 4 solid days of rain. I took the opportunity to check on the foxes. The kits were as playful as ever and were wandering a lot farther from the den than earlier in the week.

Foxes

I think I have a new favorite animal: foxes. Well maybe not but there is nothing quite like watching five rambunctious fox kits. Their den is right in Jackson and only a few blocks from my house. So hopefully I'll be seeing a lot more of them in the next couple of weeks.

Yellowstone Grizzlies

The south entrance to Yellowstone opened on Friday, so I rambled up there today. Having the south entrance open makes the trip a lot easier. I'm glad I did; I saw a total of 6 grizzlies. I didn't get anything especially noteworthy as far as pictures are concerned, but it is always great to see some bears. The bears in the first two pictures were feeding on and fighting over a carcass in the Firehole River. They were right in the middle of some geothermal features.

This sow had two cubs; the second of which is cut off in the upper left of the picture. I was surprised to see them near Craig Pass where there was still 5' of snow in most places.

Bears

399 and the cubs were out again in the park. I headed up after work and managed to get some pretty good shots. The bears seemed to be especially playful tonight. I hope this is the beginning of a good spring.

You couldn't ask for a bear to pose any better...
