Yesterday in Teton Park:
Sparring.
An impressive rack.
My intent for this morning was to photograph the lunar eclipse. I envisioned a full, red moon setting behind the peaks of the Tetons. Unfortunately I was not up in the park early enough to do so. I thought 45 minutes before the official moonset would be enough time to get some images, but I underestimated how much earlier 13,000′ peaks cause the moon to set. According to a friend I was only a few minutes too late. I guess I’ll have to try again in 2014.
A cool (-12°), cloudless sunrise.
Frost covered trees along the Gros Ventre River.
I rambled up to Teton Park this afternoon hoping to find some animals to photograph. I saw lots of moose, elk, and bison, though the only pictures I took were of a bald eagle perched in a cottonwood with the Grand Teton in the background.
The sunset behind the Tetons this evening, taken as I made my way home after fishing in Yellowstone.
A fall storm brought the first snow to the valley today. I cut out of work a little early and rambled up to Teton Park. The fall color is just passed its prime, so the idea was to photograph the fresh snow on the still vibrant trees.
Fall color has definitely arrived in and around Jackson Hole.
A small waterfall flows into the Gros Ventre River.
A group of aspens contrast with conifers below Crystal Peak.
The bigtooth maple in the canyons south of Jackson are at their peak fall color right now. After fishing the Greys River, I stopped at a few places to finally take the camera out of the bag.
