Red Hills

This was taken last Sunday. It is of the Red Hills in Bridger-Teton National Forest, just east of Teton Park. I was told of Bighorn Sheep hanging around these hills, but after looking twice I have yet to find any.

A Different Owl

A slight change of pace: this is a Great Gray Owl, which has been hanging around in the park for the last week or so. I was finally able to photograph it tonight after looking for it most of the week.

Though this last one has many flaws, I find it fascinating how flat their faces can get.

More Owls

So the owlets have left the nest. From what I was told, both chicks climbed up the tree early in the day. Shortly thereafter one fell to the ground. When I arrived, the one was still high in the tree while the other was on the ground.

At one point the chick on the ground attempted to climb another tree, as they still can’t fly. It got a few feet off the ground before getting caught in the twigs and falling.

Bob Smith was nice enough to have me over today to photograph the Western Tanagers that have been visiting his feeder.

The owlets were a lot more active this evening.

A parent coaxed one of the chicks into climbing up the tree.

First it fed the chick in the nest.

Great Horned Owls

Another image, taken today, of the Great Horned Owlets, which I guess is the proper term for baby owls. I have yet to see a parent at the nest, but hopefully I’ll get the chance in the next few days. The owlets don’t do much at the moment, though they’ll soon fledge.
