Beartooth

The Beartooth Highway switchbacks its way through Wyoming and Montana. The road tops out at 10,947′ Beartooth Pass. It wanders though alpine meadows and lakes with a good bit above treeline.

Black Bear

This was my first ‘good’ opportunity to photograph a Black Bear. I came across this one foraging in a meadow along Soda Butte Creek in Yellowstone.

Marmot

Never before had I seen so many Marmots.

Flowers and Unknown Lake

I am not sure of the flower species yet, but the yellow ones were very prevalent throughout the alpine meadows.

Glacier Lake

Glacier Lake is a short but steep hike from the trailhead. The light, of course, wasn’t any good while I was there in the mid-afternoon, but the view is quite impressive (the scale of the scene is lost in this stitched panoramic).

Beartooth Sunrise

A lackluster sunrise in the Beartooths.

This image of the Teton Range was taken at a new viewpoint for me. I had heard of this location in passing, but was never given specific directions. Today I chanced upon it. The view is much better suited for sunrise or night photography, as opposed to late afternoon, so I plan to get back there soon.

Green River Lakes

Posted in Landscapes on July 5th, 2009 by Andrew B. – Be the first to comment

I rambled down to the Green River Lakes for the long holiday weekend. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very cooperative, especially during sunset when the light is best on the mountains. I did manage to do a little shooting though.

Hail Storm

Shortly after arriving Friday afternoon, a hail storm passed through dropping dime-sized hail.
