Storms

As is typical in summer, Jackson Hole has been getting a steady stream of thunderstorms the past couple of weeks. Today I hiked into the Gros Ventre Wilderness (to fish of course) and had two storms blow through. The below image was taken on my way out with the distant Tetons framed by the Red Hills.

Weekend Road Trip

This weekend my parents are in town for a visit, so we decided to take a little road trip. On Saturday we drove through Yellowstone on our way up to Beartooth Pass, and today we took the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway to Cody and then back through Yellowstone. Though the scenery was incredible, I didn’t take too many pictures. Below are few that I did take.

Cathedral Group

When viewed from the north, the Cathedral Group (Grand Teton, Mount Owen and Teewinot) is quite impressive. To go along with the scale of the peaks, the setting sun lights them up nicely at the end of the day. This was the scene as I walked back to my car after doing a little fishing at Jenny Lake.

More Yellowstone

I made another trip up to Yellowstone today. My goal was to photograph a grizzly with four cubs that had been near Mammoth the past couple of days. Though I did see them, I was not able to get any good images. They were in a dense, young pine forest which made it difficult to get a clear view.

3 of the 4 cubs.

Some other images I snapped along the way:

Burned pine forest from last summer’s Arnica fire.

Bison in Hayden Valley.

Harlequin ducks at LeHardy Rapids.

South Entrance

Yesterday the south entrance of Yellowstone opened, so today I rambled up to the park hoping to see bears. Though I did see one grizzly, I did not get any pictures. Actually I took very few frames.

One of the few I did take: Mammoth Hot Springs
