Nap Time

As usual there was the one fox kit out and about when I stopped by the den after work. It wasn’t very active though, as it mostly napped at the den entrance.

A sure sign of spring is when the western tanagers show up in the valley. Well they have been around for the past week, so today I went to a friend’s to photograph some that frequent his backyard.

A female.

There was one kit out when I checked after work. This little guy is definitely more approachable than its siblings.

Bison Calf

Fishing was the reason behind a trip to Yellowstone earlier today, so photography wasn’t a priority. On my way home, though, I came across a bison herd that had a few calves and had to stop for a few images. This one was quite playful as it was running and jumping all around.

I checked on the den again today after work. The kits are definitely wary, but I manged to get a few images of one of them.

Fox

A friend was nice enough to let me know the location of a fox den today, so after work I went and watched it for a few hours. The kits were out briefly, but they quickly retreated to the den as I approached. The only images I was able to get were of the vixen when she returned to the area for a few minutes.

More Yellowstone

I made another trip up to Yellowstone today. My goal was to photograph a grizzly with four cubs that had been near Mammoth the past couple of days. Though I did see them, I was not able to get any good images. They were in a dense, young pine forest which made it difficult to get a clear view.

The sow.

3 of the 4 cubs.

Some other images I snapped along the way:

Burned pine forest from last summer’s Arnica fire.

Bison in Hayden Valley.

Harlequin ducks at LeHardy Rapids.
